Sorry for the delay in responding.
BT are still responsible for telephone kiosk maintenance excepting where the kiosk has been adopted by the Parish Council (as is the case in Hexworthy for example). BT will either fulfil this responsibility themselves or will provide a free painting kit to local volunteers to do the work, which usually results in more frequent and better quality painting. Dartmoor Forest Parish Council has used the volunteer scheme successfully for both kiosks in Princetown, at Rundlestone and at Hexworthy; and consequently sought volunteers to do the same in Postbridge and Bellever.
In terms of the future of Bellever kiosk, the Parish Council will endeavour to keep it operational, particularly as the mobile 3G signal will not be installed in Bellever now due to a lack of venues willing to mount the small transponder. When it is repainted the Parish Council plan to restore the kiosk to its original red as the reasons for painting it grey a few years ago no longer exist.
Best wishes
Nigel

Subject: bellever phone box
Dear Mr Tigwell
Can you explain - in the pages of Parish Link is fine – why maintenance of the phone box has suddenly become the responsibility of the parish council and/or residents?
BT has recently paid a billion for champion league rights - why can’t they maintain a phonebox?
The phone is still operational although you need a BT chargecard or a bank card.
In the old days of the Post Office painting a phone box was three days work for a skilled man – and that was a phone box maintained regularly and undoubtedly in better condition than the Bellever one which has considerable corrosion.
Of course John and Steff are to be applauded for their public spirit but can you explain why the situation has arisen and what the future for the phone box is likely to be?
Best regards

Our current plans are to first get established in Dartmoor Forest plus the B3212 and B3357 to the western edge of the National Park. We are in discussions with Plasterdown and Burrator about extending into the unfenced roads of their parishes. We have not discussed anything with Widecombe or Holne parish councils as yet. If you wish you could join the volunteers working on the B3357 between Princetown and Dartmeet. Alternatively I can hold your details in the event the scheme expands to cover Holne.
Best wishes

The parish clerk link did not connect for this query ( hexworthy/holne PC gremlins ? ) so if this scheme were to expand , I should like to volunteer my services accordingly. Personal details below:

Response:
Dear Mr Tigwell, Thank you for your letter dated 4th November ref the Church grounds and graveyard. I am sorry to say that I fully support the Community and Princetown but at this time we do not have prisoners working out on the Farm to support this project. We currently employ only 2 prisoners in the Museum and looking at the area on Sunday it will take a number of prisoners to clear this area. This is due to tighter controls on ROTL prisoners and Dartmoor is changing into a working prison and not a Resettlement prison therefore we do not have the prisoners who can go outside to work. I am in talks with the Community Service team and I will mention this area to them as I also do not wish for this area to be lost to the community of Princetown. If the above fails, I will be speaking to HMP Channing’s Wood about their prisoners coming over to Dartmoor to work outside and I if this happens I will happily re-look at this project. If I can help further please contact me on the numbers below. Thank you Steve Phillips Temp Band 7, Head of Reducing Re-Offending, HMP Dartmoor |
Vodaphone Rural Open Sure Signal 3G coverage for Postbridge and Bellever

Response:
Dear Nigel, Thank you for taking the time to apply for Vodafone UK’s Rural Open Sure Signal programme for Postbridge and Bellever, Devon. We’re pleased to confirm that we’ve received your application and will be in touch shortly after our assessment period. The Rural Open Sure Signal programme aims to bring 3G coverage to 100 rural communities across the UK, where before there was little or none. Our Open Sure Signal technology uses a low-powered ‘femtocell’ to create a 3G signal from an existing broadband connection. If your application is successful, we’ll install 4/5 Open Sure Signal units across Postbridge and Bellever, in the village hub locations you’ve recommended in your application to bring widespread 3G coverage. We look forward to assessing your application. In the meantime if you have any questions, please contact me. Kind regards, Sophie Ree Network Communications Consultant Corporate Communications Vodafone Limited |
